For our first activity at the new studio space, we will be making work that honors the tradition of Non Violence on the International Day of Non Violence, Gandhi’s birthday.
For years I’ve wanted to do a large scale banner celebrating his shrewd wisdom of Gandhi. The image of non traditional mosaic materials like salt and flowers appeared. Salt because of the significance of the SALT MARCH Gandhi lead in 1930. And flowers, marigolds, because of the imagery I’ve seen of Indian celebrations in vibrant oranges.
To help us plan for the event PLEASE RSVP to info@mosaicalchemy.com.
If you have a plate or cup that’s chipped or cracked - that you can use at our breakfast, -please bring it! We can transform it into mosaic making materials for other projects, and teach you to safely break plates at future workshops.
MOSAIC ALCHEMY’s studio space is now part of ICE HOUSE aka FORTUNA SEA PRODUCTS. I’ve worked here for over a year as Teaching Artist for the Long Beach Arts Council. During that time John, Lu and Juan etc. of ICE HOUSE have been transforming this enormous space using every bit of material deconstructed. It’s a unique, beautiful, and inspiring place. And you’ll be able to see it in it’s beginning stages.
